How we started
I bought my house with plans on turning the basement into my own private archery shop. When COVID-19 hit the US, all the other Archery shops (and countless other small businesses) shut down to “Flatten the Curve”. When 2 weeks turned into months, folks started reaching out to me to help them out because their local shops were closed.
After tuning a number of bows and having excellent results, folks were posting their 3D scores on Facebook and wanted a “Name” of my shop so they could give me “a shout out”. I jokingly said use #halfbubbleoffarchery because a previous owner framed out the basement (where my workshop is) and most of the studs were either not a uniform distance from its neighbor and/or not vertical. Some were as much as a “Half Bubble Off”.
People started telling me “You should open a shop” and “My bow shoots better than ever… I’m coming back here for tuning”. I initially thought I would just sell strings and tuning, but after a conversation with the folks at Athens Archery, I became a dealer.
I first learned about Athens Archery in 2018 at an Indoor 3D Tourney. (Winter Can-Am Classic) I had a catastrophic failure during the tournament (my fault) and the nice folks at Athens offered to loan me one of their demo bows to finish. I didn’t take them up on their offer but, that gesture really stuck with me. So, when I was in the market for a new bow, I WANTED to do business with them. I purchased a 2019 Ridge 32 and within 2 weeks, I started selling off my other bows to replace them with an Athens.
